This isn’t your average medical school. At the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (USC SOMG), education is hands-on, fast-paced, and community-driven. THE CHALLENGE
Medical students at USC SOMG juggle intense schedules, from lectures and labs to clinical prep and study groups. As the school grew and evolved, leaders saw an opportunity to improve how students accessed campus resources and received essential communications.
The existing systems had grown over time in a way that made things more complicated to manage. USC SOMG used multiple tools to handle room bookings, which led to inefficiencies and made it difficult to see what was available.
The AV and facilities teams frequently received the same questions about space availability, how to book rooms, and event updates. This highlighted an opportunity to improve the student experience by consolidating existing tools and simplifying the processes already in place.

To improve the student experience, USC SOMG partnered with Appspace to bring space reservations, communications, and digital signage together in one centralized platform.
Now, students and staff can book study rooms, lecture halls, conference spaces, and even parking—right from their devices. Whether scheduling a one-time session or managing a semester-long calendar, booking is intuitive, mobile-friendly, and fully integrated with Outlook.
Appspace also made campus communications easier to access, keeping announcements, class updates, and event reminders in one place. Faculty and staff spend less time repeating information and more time engaging with students.
The school also modernized its digital signage network, replacing static displays with dynamic, real-time screens that welcome visitors, highlight events, and show live room availability across four floors of academic space.
Integrations with Crestron panels, Webex, Microsoft Teams, and occupancy sensors ensure a consistent experience throughout the building. Behind the scenes, Appspace analytics support smarter planning — from setup coordination and buffer times to AV support scheduling — helping everything run more smoothly.
